about wearing shorts in winter

HY must fly all the way back to the Fragrant Harbour for a few days to renew his ID card, and the whole paperwork-stamping process only takes about half-an-hour! (So what's all this talk about curbing air travel to save our environment?) He's only been away for a couple of hours, and I am already missing him, but I shan't tell him that, hehehe... Anyways, whilst he's enjoying a 26C climate, one is sure that a wintry London has much to offer.

Yes, it's Steve Wozniak, the man himself.

This was Woz's London book launch held at UCL, an auditorium packed with spam-eating IT geeks. As most of you may know, Woz is the co-founder of Apple and the true engineer of its early computers, but he has been overshadowed by Jobs (to which I learnt he was already a powerful salesman in high school.) When speaking about his Apple departure, he didn't sound at all bitter? Well, it's hard not to. Anyways, Woz is a brilliant speaker/story teller himself: funny, smart, articulate and focused.

Three-legged creature

This was MacExpo at Olympia. I am very pleased to have found the Gorillapod selling at the fair, for I know it is only available in America and only recently introduced in the UK. I pretended to give it to HY as a present, but in reality it is mine, hahahahahaha.

headmaster

It's that time of the year again, and I've recently made my bi-monthly journey to New Malden for a haircut! After searching high and low for a decent Edward Scissorhands, I've found a cute and boyish Korean guy called Sam. The price is cheap and the service is good: they offer you tea and a head massage just like the ones I had back home. I simply don't believe in paying a 20+ quid for something that will grow back again, and so London prices are unacceptable. It would take an almost superhuman effort to dislike Sam. With his sweet smile and basic English vocabulary he eagerly tells you about his wife and new discoveries in England; most importantly, he does a good job. I once read on the BBC news website that hairdressers are the happiest profession in the nation. Too bad Sam is no longer working at the Korean hairdressing salon. Not too worry. This new Korean lady called Michelle is equally skillful, and perhaps better. However, she's quite good at encouraging you to spend more cash on their other services, but that does not work on me.

deletion

After watching an ecstatic Mourinho celebrating on Barca's home ground, F and I said goodbye to each other. That's another Taiwanese friend packing her bags to return to her familiar territory, and that's another number I am deleting from my mobile phone contacts. Overseas students come and go, and I am used to it. Each year they fly to the old empire for an overpriced one-year Masters programme. In summer they take advantage of low-budget airlines to do their grand tour, then before you know it they are jetting off to the Far East again. That is the pattern. Friendships can be short and shallow, unlike the old chums you've met in high school and college, but I don't say no to building these short-term relationships. It's not just because you may not see them again for a long time, it's because you want to know a variety of people to make life more interesting.
