bridget is back

Went to see BJ2 with Big S and HY yesterday. Methinks Zellweger is chubbier than the last movie, just look at her when she smiles--those plump rosy cheeks. And now I remember her premiere shot in the red dress, which proves that she has bounced back to shape. For the sake of Zellweger's health, it's not a good idea to film a third BJ movie. That being said, with Bridget being clumsy and all that, it's hard to understand why Darcy fancies her. On the other hand, Darcy is adorable as usual, though his charm vanishes when he starts smiling. The plot isn't as tight as the first one, too many cringing moments, and after all, the get-to-know-you phase is usually more interesting than the settled-down phase. Yet, still good entertainment for a Wednesday night. You can trace Bridget's footsteps in London here: Download file

apple

An absolutely c-r-a-z-y Saturday beginning at the hour of five. I accompanied a geek to Regent Street not to see the Christmas lights at six in the morning, but to join a religious cult of apple worshippers awaiting the 'second coming'--the grand opening of the Apple store in London at ten. I thought it was mad to wake up at such a time to stand in a queue in this Arctic weather, but I was not mad enough. The first lunatic was said to make himself comfortable at the front door on Thursday morning! According to sources, he owns a blog to record this experience. Later on, several others lined up behind him with sleeping bags and chairs; of course they brought their 'cross', too--the ultimate Apple notebook. Me and Geek turned up with a shock of horror, walking pass legions of worshippers (we were no. 396)--what will become of our most wanted lucky bags!? In the end, Geek was determined to stay and grab his free t-shirt. I, on the other hand, was too cold to stand still, and therefore made several journeys to the convenience store and Starbucks. During these visits, I...
1) bought one tomato soup and one hot chocolate
2) learnt that Steve Jobs will arrive in his helicopter + Ken Livingston will cut the ribbon; 5 lucky bags will have laptops in them. (None turned out to be true.)
Slowly approaching the hour of ten, our bodies were tired but spirits were somewhat high. Dozens of Apple staff dressed in black then came jogging out of the store giving high fives and cheering--the type of American enthusiasm I have to respect--in other words, 'we want your cash'. Finally, we reached the end of the pilgrimage and received the Holy Grail. Shop was no dissappointment--very slick, and gave the impression that they value innovative ideas. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, certainly my first and last time to wait for a shop opening. Geek was mildly happy after realising that there are tons of more serious geekness in the world. The question now is: should I or should I not sell my t-shirt on eBay?

the preppy look

HY has an invitation to the annual GANT off-season sale around Pimlico tube station, with most garment costing each a decent 20 quid. Just a cursive glance at the catalogue, the style would remind me of what my cousin, Rodney, used to remark on the East side dress sense, 'the preppy look', them exuding an air of East coast confidence. Well, I think it's hard to pigeon-hole HY into a specific style, for he is neither totally clean-cut, nor a bit scruffy-looking; as long as a guy does not spend too much time caring about his clothing then that should be fine. GANT successfully created the illusion that everything is free by providing huge laundry bags at the entrance. Though to my dissappointment the women and home sale are on the weekend, after hunting through piles and piles of colourful designs for men, I have to admit that shopping for anything is fun full stop. I stuffed a few handsome jumpers, shirts and ties in the bag, to which HY sometimes exclaimed, 'That is so gay,' or 'That looks like a carpet'. After trying them on at the open space platform with other chubby/skinny men, it proves I have a fairly good taste. *wink*

monarchy

I don't mind David Starkey strolling in the meadows rife with mud and shite, whilst putting on a solemn face to explain that this is the battlefield of so and so. Then a hairy, beardy knave jumps into the scene and feigns to fight like a hero. Nor do I mind him sitting amongst a pile of century old books looking all studious and knowledgeable--in fact he is. It's just that Starkey's tone of voice gets on my nerves, I feel tired just watching him speak, pronouncing distinctively every syllable after syllable. Can you imagine sitting next to him on the dinner table; he will be spitting all over the place. And, has anyone seen him smile? The mug shot on his website count as a grin.

here's one i made earlier

A follow-up to yesterday's dinner extravaganza: Z and Ish arrived earlier than expected, so ingredients were still in their primitive stages. Luckily, unlike Mr Fort I'm a very unselfish cook who allows my guests to do everything in the kitchen. Also, I choose to flout the law of the recipe by not putting in the exact amount--this I say, is a sign of genius. Z was in charge of the lentils with poached egg, whilst Ish displayed his frying talent in making hake and chorizo fishcakes (without the chorizo)--the food was delicious. The dessert course was replaced by cakes from PAUL, super! Later on, Z's boyfriend L arrived, and we made him fix our dining table. I'm such a great hostess.

domestic goddess

Moi does not like this title, and certainly don't give a toss for Granny Martha Stewart, it's just that I have a tendency to keep everything out of sight. Having to lay my laundry out to dry in the room is always a pain; rainy days make a difficult process even worse. Being a firm believer of storage units and boxes, here's some stuff that seem helpful: a drying cabinet + cute boxes. Oh, by the way, I've invited Zoe and Ish to my place for dinner tomorrow night. Should I feed them with this or a feast of instant noodles instead?

enlightenment

Silently from Monday onwards, I would have to tick a different age box (26-34) in surveys; 26 going on 30 with smidgens of 4! Many say it all goes downhill from now, however, the process of ageing can be romantic (I understand years ahead I will certainly change tone.) I've seen cool grey-haired ladies cycling alongside fierce cars and motorbikes on the streets of London, or my old (literally) 70-year-old Logic course tutor who stands upright to give lectures--this might be something to aspire to. This year's birthday was fairly quiet. One reason is that I have tons of reading and writing to do, yet this doesn't bother me that much. Maybe I'll arrange a belated birthday drinks next week after I've completed the essay. I also received a smashing birthday present from HY, a DIY lampshade which I planned to give him for his next birthday as well--what a coincidence. Anyways, we attempted to make the lampshade together, but after 5 seconds of pretending to share the toy with me, HY grabbed all the bits and decided to work it out himself. Humpf... I thought this was mine! With his artistic hands, HY proudly built two lampshades, but as he left the room, I took them all apart and made my very own oval-shaped design. HAHAHAHAHA.
